*Majlise Ulama Shia Europe condemns Finsbury Park mosque Terror Attack*19/6/17.
We are greatly shocked and saddened by the terror attack on innocent people that took place in North London just after midnight on Monday 19th June, killing one elderly man and leaving 10 others injured. According to witnesses a white man drove his van into a group of Muslim worshippers coming out of a mosque after their special Ramadhan night time prayers, in a racially motivated terror attack. The brave passers by managed to pin down the driver to the ground, who was shouting islamophobic slogans while they patiently waited for the police to arrive at the scene. The emergency services arrived at the scene within minutes. They helped two of the injured people at the scene and took 8 others to various hospitals around the area. Two of those in the hospital are believed to be in a serious condition. The PM has condemned this as an act of terrorism saying , ” it was a sickening attempt to divide people which would not succeed”. The deputy assistant police commissioner stated that “no matter what the motivation for this attack proves to be, this being treated as a Terrorist attack”. He further commented, ” this was an attack on London and all Londoners and we should stand together against extremists whatever their cause”
We at MUS condemn this terrorist attack in the strongest of terms and demand that this rise in hate crime against the Muslim community over the years is dealt with by the government extremely seriously and actions will be taken to reassure the British Muslim community to feel safe during these very difficult times. At the same time we would like to promote peace, unity and defiance in the face of hate, terror and any form of extremism. It is up to us as Britons and as a society as a whole to make sure we are not going to be divided and we will stand up together not allowing any intolerance against Islamic as well as against the values of our British society because hatred breeds violence and extremism.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends of our brother who lost his life. May Allah make his soul rest in peace in the here after. And we pray for a quick and full recovery of those who are being treated for their injuries at the hospitals. Ameen
We pay tribute to the emergency services and the members of of public who helped and are helping during and after this incident.
We stand united alongside all the law abiding citizens of this country against all forms of hate crime and violent extremism and will do our level best to promote peace and unity in our local communities.
