Karachi-based Sunni and Shia scholars of Milli Yakjehti Council (National Solidarity Council) have demanded on Saturday that those attacked Ashura procession in Rawalpindi and made pro-Yazid provocative hate-speech.
Speaking at a hurriedly called joint press conference here, the MYC’s acting provincial President Allama Qazi Ahmed Noorani, another Sunni scholar Mufti Aslam Naeemi and Shia scholars Allama Nazir Abbas Taqvi and Allama Sadiq Raza Taqvi unanimously condemned the attack on Ashura procession in Pindi and other parts of the country. These leaders hail from Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan, Muttahida Ulema Mahaz, Shia Ulema Council and Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen.
They said that the world bears witness to the fact that Pakistani Muslims live together with harmony and observe Ashura and celebrate Eid Milad ul Nabi jointly. They said that the attack on Ashura procession, burning of mosques and Imam Bargahs and markets were aimed at tarnishing the image of Pakistan and Pakistani Muslims.
They said that as a first step, an orator at the Masjid-e-Zarrar of Rawalpindi made a fiery hate-speech siding with Yazid and opposing Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and he also called Shiites and Sunni Bralevis as infidels and polytheists. They cited that since the establishment of Pakistan, said mosque and the prayer leaders there remained involved in provoking hatred among Muslims.
They said that no Muslim whether he is Shia or Sunni couldn’t tolerate blasphemous remarks against the holy personality of Imam Hussain (AS). Therefore, the Sunni and Shia Muslim scholars said that the Masjid-e-Zarrar and its supporters were responsible for unilateral aggressive attack on the Ashura procession. They fired and stoned to harm the mourners. They burnt the mosques, Imam Bargahs and markets. Hence, they are responsible for the losses caused due to their fanaticism and terrorism.
They said that Imam Hussain (AS) is symbol and manifestation of unity of Muslims. He is a role model for all Muslims. His struggle against the Umayyad ruler Yazid was just, right and correct. They said that the attackers have already imposed a war on the Islamic state of Pakistan therefore they are insurgents.
They demanded that a counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operation be launched forthwith to eliminate these terrorists. They demanded that those who attacked peaceful Ashura procession should be hanged publicly.
